"Additional Saucon Valley Graduates Receive Awards"

Students also receiving awards at Saucon Valley High School's graduation ceremony Wednesday night include: Barrett Geyer - Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award.

From The Morning Call, June 20, 2003.

Each year, the United States Marines Youth Foundation, Inc. awards approximately 15,000 Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence certificates to deserving high school students.

This award recognizes distinguished high school band members for musical achievements and leadership as a high school scholar. Candidates are exemplary young citizens and role models for other students. This awards program is sponsored by the United States Marines Youth Foundation, Inc. (USMYF) and award recipients are those students who were most inspirational or showed the greatest determination.

I first got involved with Saucon's music program in 4th grade. Without a doubt, the musical education and opportunities provided by Saucon improved my analytical skills and helped to build a process for learning that applied across multiple subject areas. I'm a strong advocate of maintaining and expanding musical opportunities for our students.

Interestingly, my first attempt at "politics" and winning an election was in 2002, when I was elected by my peers as Band President. I consider myself fortunate to have had the experiences I did with the Saucon Valley Concert & Marching bands, Jazz Ensemble, and being able to represent Saucon at multiple Pennsylvania Music Educator's Association (PMEA) district & regional competitions.

As a school board director, it would be a personal goal of mine to help support and elevate Saucon's music, theater, and arts programs.
